An important component of Poly UMC's mission outreach is providing salary support for a missionary. Since 1995 this congregation has pledged and provided a portion of the salary for Missionary Susie Canafax. From 1995-1999 Ms. Canafax served in ministry in Jos, Nigeria, Africa, where she was responsible for the health care of approximately 400 students, staff and faculty of the Hillcrest School. This school educates children of missionaries of various spiritual backgrounds who are working in the area, as well as indigenous children.
In 2000 she began a new assignment in Atlanta, Georgia. There she serves as Coordinator of the Wellness Program for the Missionaries of the United Methodist Church. She continues to perform her duties in conjunction with the Medical School of Emory University.
The Church considers this participation in mission ministry both a privilege and a blessing and looks forward to many more years of participation in a program that helps make possible God's presence in the world.
